Early theory about the Washington, DC shooting this afternoon
I may be wrong on this, but let me go out on a limb
and speculate that the incident in Washington, DC this afternoon was a tragic
accident. I have experienced enough bad
incidents with police to realize that their stories are too often lies. (Anyone paid attention to Tallassee police
beating up the petite Christina West, just because they could? Google it if you haven't.)
Here is part of a Washington Post article about
the shooting incident this afternoon.
A witness says he saw a black sedan driven by a
woman heading west on Pennsylvania Avenue, into a security checkpoint. The
driver went about 20 yards before rapidly turning the car around at the
concrete security barriers. He said, "It looked like the driver was scared or lost. I thought she might have been a tourist."
The witness said, “The Secret Service guy was just
having a cow, yelling at her and banging on the car. The Secret Service officers pulled a black
metal gate into her path and she slowed to try to go around it. Then the agent
moved the gate in front of her again. At
that point she just gunned it. She ran the barricade down and the guy; knocked
him up onto her hood. He rolled off into the street, and she tore off down
Pennsylvania Avenue. The whole encounter lasted about 20 seconds.”
The police story, presumed true by the media, is
that the woman was up to evil mischief.
But the fact that she had no weapons and had a small child with her
makes me look for another story.
I suspect Miriam Carey simply made a wrong turn in a
complicated city. At the very least,
driving in a strange city and being lost could make me angry and a bit irrational. She may have driven by accident into the checkpoint. Angry and frustrated she may have rapidly
turned her car around at the concrete security barrier and attempted to move
on.
This would have gotten the attention of security
officers nearby, but I presume they lost their cool. The witness described the Secret Service guy
having a cow, yelling at her, and banging on her car. If she had ever had a bad experience with
police, or heard about police brutality to people like Chrisina West, she may
have tried to flee the scene. The angry
cop shoots his gun, and things go downhill from there. Once shots are fired why on earth would anyone
want to stop? She eventually stopped, got out of her car and began running. Then she was killed,
with multiple shots in her back.
I wondered why she ran. Perhaps with all the bullets flying she gave up her life to save her baby, leading shots away from her car and child.

I wish police would be slower to get angry, would
listen better, would give the benefit of the doubt, and be less trigger happy. Their guns today, which were the only guns
used, solved nothing. Instead, they
scared a city, destroyed a family, and killed a woman.
